LEGALIZE MARIJUANA!

by Larry Flynt
HUSTLER Magazine September 2010

This November, California voters will find a ballot initiative calling for the legalization of marijuana. If it passes, California will become the first state in the Union to make pot legal. In my opinion, marijuana should never have been outlawed in the first place.

California prisons are already choked with people convicted of marijuana-related crimes. How much sense does that make, especially given the cost of housing and feeding them at a time when the state is broke?

In that regard, taxing the sale of legal marijuana will go a long way toward solving California’s crushing budget crisis. This is a no-brainer. Let’s make the damn plant legal. And I strongly urge the other 49 states to do likewise.

    Mr. Flynt,
HELP STOP Search.Twitter.com and bit.LY from issuing no age warning and no local juridiiction law warning nor any warning that someone might accidently be offended by the material your websites present for mature adult view should it be legal in their jurisdiction and only if they WANT to see such things.
On search.twitter.com you can search for “bit.ly hustler” and get a GRAND and FREE working dashboard of the best adult videos and porn in the world, and all for free. I called the FBI. They hung up on me. I tried to call bit.LY and Twitter. They publish no phone numbers. I emailed them. Twitter sent a form letter email back “WE DO NOT HOST PORN” don’t shoot the messenger I guess huh?
I remember when they shot YOU, Mr. Flynt. You, a messenger yourself, for a form of entertainment that causes a lot of people anger, and for others a great deal of apparent pleasure. Healf the world likes it, half the world hates it. I offer no opinion, Mr. Flynt.
I got no response from bit.LY. They may not be fond of me over there. Go figure.
So in a last ditch effort I called Mitchell Kapor who founded Lotus. He just gave bit.LY great big wads of money, along with AOL Ventures and unnamed others to the tune of $10.5 million dollars.
Meanwhile, a Libyan URL Shortner run by porn blogger Violet Blue, vb.LY, was shut down a few weeks ago or so by the Libyan government because THEY host porn. Deliberately. This was deemed a violation of Libyan law, Islamic law and Sharian law.
I respect the Islamic faith as I do all religions. I do not judge who is possibly right and who is wrong in my personal beliefs which I categorize according to W. C. Fields, who had a few words to say about opinions if you recall. I may believe my opinions are right but I will never tell someone that theirs are wrong, just that I disagree, but on spiritual matters we are all at the mercy of our faith if we have some. Personally, I think a little faith is good for anyone, as long as it’s in something that doesn’t destroy your liver, lungs or family. Mine, I keep to myself, and I show the proper respect to all others.
I’m a capitalist, mr. Flynt. I’m red, white, blue and GREEN. Normally I would let this matter go but I am pissed off, sir. Not at you. You put warnings on the sites you control. Grown ups can make their own decisions if they want to see your wares or not. IF it is legal where they are. Now bit.LY and search.twitter.com say they host no porn. Yet my 8 year old grandson, who has a computer at home, if he knows how to do it and trust me, you remember when YOU were 8? or a few years older? Your magazine wasn’t in business yet but there were others. And every kid back then likely saw a few. Many went on to become very fond of them, though few will admit it.
This matters not to me. You follow the law of the land. But if the law of the mand conflicts with your personal idea of the law of God, some religions teach that you must then break the law of the land. But if you get caught? You do your time like a good fellow and don’t rat out your buddies. I use just an example the Apostle Paul, who faced such a dilemma. So, he broke the Roman law and when he was Rome he did NOT do as they do, and instead he did time. Not so hard time, he was the Martha Stewart ankle bracelet poster boy of his millennium, house arrest for much of it but they say he put his time in the can wisely. He wrote a few books I hear. He could have walked, but he wouldn’t rat out his buddy Jesus. They’d like him here in NY down on Mulberry street.
So? I ask you to reach out with your influence if you are so inclined. No one listens to me, sir. I’m just a lonely empty nester Mr. Mom who lost his wife 9 years ago right after suddenly not being a millionaire any more and then facing three teenagers on my own with no skills other than always having been the better cook. They kept me alive when I wanted to die. Some recent years ago, after a bottom of 19 cents in the bank and no heat in the house in February, most utilities shut off, it’s an old story mr. Flynt, and I’m one of the lucky ones now. I own sixteen company now and have been a “good boy” for three years plus now. And I wanna live. But I wanna live in the America I know, and love. And that’s one where adults with power and control over what my grandson can see on the Internet are responsible enough, and I’ll use you as an example. I may like what you offer and I might not. I’ll never tell you. You DON’T NEED TO KNOW. And I don’t need to know how Twitter and bit.LY fix this. I’ve been a compter programmer to the Fortune 500 and even foreign governments for nearly 30 years and I could fix search.twittter.com’s problem in about an hour or two. But they don’t seem to give a rat’s intestinal gateway to the outside world of you know what I mean. They effectively say “NOT ME! NOT ME!” And so does bit.LY.
That’s something like an 8 year old would say, eh what?
So, I ask you then, WHO DO I SUE? You? You haven’t broken the law. And both bit.LY and Twitter say that they have not either. Do I hunt down the IP Addresses of the people who shorten the links? Or perhaps the people who click them? I can either or both very easily. Especially those who shortened the links. If YOU are not liable, and bit.LY and TWITTER are not liable, then THEY and the people who LOOK at it illegally must be liable. Right? 29 years of logic didn’t get jumbled by the three strokes I had in 2001 after major open heart surgery for valve repair. An inch to either side I’d be dead they said. But? I lived. Then I wanted to die. But I didn’t. Now? It’s time to put that logic to use. And I think I have solved the problem as I typed this to you… I can get the IP Addresses of those people who shorten the links on bit.LY just by looking at their Twitter profiles and then that gives me their websites and maybe their email addresses and then their Facebook and from there I can see how many grandkids THEY might have. pretty cool, huh? I could even teach a smart 8 year old how to do it maybe. That’s not a joke. Takes me about 2 minutes before I have a name.
But then? I don’t know what to do with them. No one seems to care. Maybe I should just build up a big file of them and send it along to you? Maybe you could sell em your nagazine, huh? They’d probably like it, you think?
Well, thanks for reading and your time if you got this far. I have some poking around on the Internet to do. Thanks for letting me think this out. Hope you are well. hey? You got any grandkids? I got two.

Just finished watching PPL vs Larry Flynt. Great story, one we have watched numerous times. Agree with your philosophies and believe in your rights. Our contry is going to hell in a handbasket and we are watching it happen. If only we all had your courage …. I agree with the marijuana issue. My husband is a quad and I cant help but believe that pot would likely help his horrific muscle spasms but it is not legal so where does that leave him?
you take care and God Bless….

I feel that marijuana is not evil and doesn’t need to be illegal. What do they think was in the peace pipes back in the day, it sure wasn’t oregano. I used to be a toker and then I became an active member of the piss lottery. I still miss the times of being mellow and laid back. Now I have the stress of being a working person and provider for my family. As far as the government goes, they need to come off the mountain and sit with the rest of us humans.

Larry, you’ve got a great sense of humor and I wish I could meet you in person and thanks for keeping it real and light hearted. So in lieu of being face to face with my hero, all I can do for now is say thank you and keep on being you.
