The Problem with Florida
I have no way of knowing with certainty what really transpired in Sanford, Florida, between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman on that fateful night of February 26, 2012, although it appears Zimmerman was out looking for trouble. However, I can say with certainty that the Stand Your Ground law signed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush back in 2005 has been nothing but a prescription for disaster.
Essentially the statute allows any licensed gun owner to shoot someone if he or she feels “reasonably” threatened by that person—even if that person is unarmed. In effect, this has turned the entire state of Florida into the Wild West, where deadly shootouts were once commonplace. Already 200 people in Florida have been killed as a result of the Stand Your Ground law. According to press reports, many of the victims were unarmed.
Most disturbing, 25 other states have followed Florida’s example by passing similar laws. Is this really the America we want? I don’t think so.

WOW… I just lost all respect for mr flynt. You say there is 200 “Stand Your Ground” shootings? Well let me ask you this. How many of the “unarmed” were breaking into a house? How many were trying to steal from an innocent hard working everyday person? But most of all, how about the unreported number of felonies that were stopped by a CCL holder in the state of FL? Show us a number like that and maybe you might get someone attention.
Just my thoughts.

The law that is question in Florida is a fairly new law. A self defence law was passed generations ago in Florida and then repealed. It was repealed in the late 1980′s or early 90′s. After repealing the law they passed a 10-20-life titled law where by you could not use a gun even for self defence. Then the same folks passed a national carry law, “NCL” that was for lawenforcement officers only. In the mind set of these folks it was OK for them to carry, but not the citizen. So after that this little lobby of folks they repealed the selfdefence laws of other states.
The people lobbing for the repealing of the gun laws are anti-gun, anti-adult industries, and against alot of other things. They are bible belt thug lords. They have been educated by ignorance and are beyond dishonest but extend a moral purity of them selves.
After much adew and showing these folks and how they mannipulate the system based on morals and position, the new self defence law was passed in Florida as well as othere states.
It is not time to standup for the right of self defence, it is something you cant take away by someone causing harm.

There are definitely arguments to both sides of the issue here. We all want our freedom and rights people have died for hundreds of years to give to us, but this comes at a great price. Freedom is not free by any means! We all have the right to go out and live our lives without the criminal element taking our freedoms from us. People are scared to drive in certain parts of the cities, afraid to walk down the street at night, afraid to leave their personal property for fear of it getting stolen. What kind of freedom is this? I have the right to drive to a store and shop and leave my items in my car without fear of losing them, right? Well we all know that is not how things are this day in age. People are afraid to walk down the sidewalk at night for fear of being robbed or assaulted for nothing more then entertainment. This isn’t what this country is about, we shouldn’t be afraid to walk through our own neighborhoods with fear, should we? The idea of citizens not being allowed to protect themselves is ridiculous. The Police cannot be everywhere nor are they our personal security guards. The average citizen does not have millions of dollars to pay for armed security guards and massive security fences and systems. I have to rely on my own training and know how to protect myself. I have been in law enforcement for 18 years now and have learned a few things on protecting myself that the common hard working citizen does not have. I am a firm believer in citizens having the right to protect themselves any way they can when they are in fear of their safety. I believe in the right for a law abiding citizen to carry firearms and to use them if needed, but this comes with great responsibility no doubt! If you are going to carry a weapon of any kind then go get training in the use of it. Learn when and where and if the use of force will be justified. Most people that carry guns have never taken a training course of any kind and in the face of danger have no clue how to use it. This results in the gun taken away and used against the owner or people being hurt or killed that did not need to be.
This being said we are not all robots and don’t all think the same, act the same, fear the same. My threat level is not the same as the engineer or the baker or the guy that publicizes magazines. I have been in numerous physical sports and activities my whole life that other people have not been involved in. My threat level is not the same as a 115 pound female officer even though we have the same training. I’m not a huge guy but I’m not hesitant to go hands on with a subject much larger then myself where another officer may not be as confident and go straight to a higher level of force. Are they justified? absolutely!! This does not mean I am reckless or arrogant I have just had more street life then others. I worked construction for many years and would work high above the ground without issues, but some of my buddies wouldn’t follow me up there. I knew guys that were bad asses with fighting and sports that were scared to death of heights, spiders, snakes and so on. My Point? We are not the same inside, we all have limits. So when you hear of people protecting themselves and someone gets hurt or killed then at least get all the facts of the story before tearing someone down. If you weren’t there you have no idea what was going through everyone’s minds at that moment.
We all have our different threat levels and can not be judged the same.

Dear Mr. Flynt,
My name is neil platt, im a junior at palmetto ridge high school (naples fl.) I’ve been doing a lot of research on you. The now day generation is full of people who want to use the first amendmant, we constantly are “rebelling out” to the higher authority. So I tell my friends and peers and even teachers that the man I look up to most is larry flynt. I wasn’t even born when you made your history with jerry falwell and the supreme court, but hearing about these events is like hearing about a legend. One person at a time I am enlighting them to use their civil rights in every way, to be “more like flynt”. Im currently watching these campain conventions in tampa.. Mom always said to get into politics you need to bullshit and have a pretty face. Mom was right. But I want a see a new approach, Flynt 2016.
Your friend, Neil Platt
P.s. like yourself, I absolutely refuse to compromise.

Larry, felt compelled to THANK YOU for what us “lower middle class” can’t do…get the true facts. Unfortunately you have to offer a bounty to do so….Doesn’t speak well for our political system. The folks w/the big bucks get results, which are normally self serving to them and theirs. THANK YOU for trying to bring us regular folk into the inner circle…sorry for you it may cost a mil…sorry for most of us we couldn’t get there by ourselves….Can you imagine a person running for president who feels he/she has no reason to 100% reveal themselves to the folks he/she is seeking their vote and going to represent if elected?! Kinda like hiring a baby sitter w/o full references…….

The only problem I have with Florida is the bugs, heat, and mostly the freakin’ hurricanes.
